Monique Bryher is a healthcare consultant with 20 years of experience consulting for health plans, insurance carriers, hospitals and government agencies.
Monique is a graduate of the UCLA School of Public Health and earned her MSPH there.
Monique is opposed to all forms of medical fraud: whether it is physicians overbilling their patients, insurance carriers, Medicare or Medicaid/MediCal; insurance carriers intentionally underpaying physicians and hospitals for services faithfully rendered; durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers billing for equipment never ordered, stocked or delivered; and finally, patients and other individuals who dip their hands into the acid of fraud. This is all done at the expense of persons who need these vital medical services and the taxpayer.
Here is Monique’s prayer:
1. May every person who participates in medical fraud go to prison. This includes corporate criminals;
2. May every person who participates in medical fraud be required to pay restitution AND a fine. This includes corporate criminals;
3. May every person who participates in medical fraud and is a naturalized citizen be stripped of their citizenship and deported as soon as they have completed their prison sentence.
4. May federal and state regulatory agencies develop proactive programs to prevent medical fraud.
5. May the same agencies devote additional resources in the form of investigators, auditors and prosecutors in order to recapture every possible dollar stolen from the taxpayer and those who are legally entitled to receive medical services.
This blog is dedicated to two of the best physicians I know:
Dietrich G. Voegele, an immigrant physician who dedicated his professional life to the affordable care of his patients without ever stealing a dime from anyone.
Bruce Fishman, the best living doctor I know. Dr. Fishman is an orthopaedic surgeon who owns and operates two urgent care facilities in Los Angeles County. He cares deeply about his patients (and staff), provides world-class medical care at below-market fees and is beloved by all who have had the privilege of receiving medical care from him.
